ACEWORKS Researcher Young-jun Ban Wins KSAE's Seoyeon Academic Award

Young-jun Ban, a researcher on the Software Team within the SDV Division at ACEWORKS (CEO Seung-beom Park), has been named a recipient of the 2025 Seoyeon Academic Award, presented by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE).

One of the most respected honors in the domestic automotive engineering community, the Seoyeon Academic Award recognizes researchers who have demonstrated exceptional achievement — judged on both the technical quality of their work and its potential contribution to the industry. Ban's award stems from his paper, "Obstacle Avoidance Path Planning and Following Algorithm for Autonomous Racing," which impressed reviewers with its technical rigor and real-world applicability in autonomous driving control.

The research centers on an optimal path planning and control algorithm built around the Frenet coordinate system. By fusing data from multiple sensors to build an accurate picture of the driving environment, the algorithm enables autonomous vehicles to navigate around obstacles reliably and safely — even at high speeds.

The recognition adds to a growing body of evidence of ACEWORKS' depth in autonomous driving and SDV software research. "Young-jun Ban's work is a clear example of what technology-driven value creation looks like at ACEWORKS," a company representative said. "We'll keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible in autonomous driving and vehicle control, with an eye toward innovation that meets global standards."
