(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Han Sang-yong = The 37th World Electric Vehicle Conference and Exhibition (EVS37) will be held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul from the 23rd to the 26th.
Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors will showcase electric vehicles equipped with state-of-the-art purpose-based mobility (PBV) technology and next-generation functions at the exhibition. KG Mobility will unveil three electric sport utility vehicles (SUV) Torres EVX Leisure and Cargo Vans.
Sunwoo Myung-ho, EVS37 venue and president of the World Electric Vehicle Association, said at a press conference at the Seoul Press Center on the 17th.
Chairman Sun-Hoo said, "This EVS Seoul competition is expected to be the competition stage for the most innovative electric vehicle technology," adding, "Not only electric vehicles but also many domestic and foreign companies leading the battery market will attend to show off their high technology."
EVS, which began in 1969, is considered the world's longest and largest electric vehicle exhibition and academic conference.
It is also called the "World Electric Vehicle Olympics," where global automakers and researchers gather to discuss major trends in future mobility and advanced technology development.
The World Electric Vehicle Association has held EVS every year, touring Asia, Europe, and North America. This is the third time that the event will be held in Korea, following Busan in 2002 and Goyang in Gyeonggi Province in 2015.
This year, 160 mobility-related companies, including global companies, will set up 550 booths, with Korean companies accounting for 63 percent of the participating companies. This is followed by Europe (21 percent), China and Asia (12 percent), and the Americas (4 percent).
Organizers explained that the number of general public visitors in Korea will exceed 10,000, the largest ever.
In addition, 500 papers submitted from more than 30 countries will be presented this time, and an academic conference will be held with 1,500 scholars and experts from more than 40 countries.
The 'Electric Vehicle Tech Summit' will also be held with keynote lectures and special sessions by Hyundai Motor Executive Director Han Dong-hee and LG Science Park President Park Il-pyeong.
Hyundai Mobis will also participate in the event to reveal research results in a wide range of fields, including driving systems, which are the core of electric vehicles, as well as batteries, safety parts, system platforms, and vehicle infotainment.
