[Car&Tech] ACEWORKS' Battery Life Diagnostic Device...EV Battery Life Forecast

Electric car fire accidents are difficult to prevent. It would be nice to use batteries for electric cars without any problems, but it is not easy to monitor a large number of batteries in real time. Batteries are core components that account for 40 percent of the cost of electric cars, and their life span depends greatly on driving habits and charging history.
ACEWORKS, a mobility technology company, is developing a diagnostic device that can accurately determine the condition of batteries in electric vehicles and predict life expectancy. The development of the device will be completed next year and commercialized to global automakers of finished vehicles and parts makers.
ACEWORKS is strengthening research and development of diagnostic technologies to enhance battery performance and safety for electric vehicles such as electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Currently, it is supplying a number of devices and equipment to various domestic and foreign companies including Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis.
The newly developed diagnostic device is equipped with a function to detect the risk of battery fire in advance. It is to understand the current battery capacity such as charging and discharging status, remaining life, and safety. It is designed so that the vehicle owner can directly check the battery health status (SOH).
If the driver has an SOH of 80% even when the battery is fully charged, the speed at which the battery capacity decreases at a certain point in time may suddenly increase. This phenomenon can be verified by the owner himself or herself by failing to produce even performance. Moreover, if SOH deteriorates, it can lead to a fire. ACEWORKS said it can prevent a fire by detecting the possibility of a fire in advance by using an electric vehicle life diagnostic device.
"Battery diagnosis technology not only diagnoses electric vehicle battery conditions, but also utilizes charging and discharging history data to allow batteries to be used for a longer period of time," an ACEWORKS official said. "The diagnostic technology will be more utilized in the field of battery performance and safety inspection in the future."
In fact, battery life diagnostic devices are expected to have a significant impact on the growth of the electric vehicle market. In particular, as the used electric vehicle market is growing, it is analyzed that the added value of the life diagnostic device that can accurately check the battery performance and durability is high.
According to market research firm Vision Research, the global battery diagnostic market has grown from 1.25 billion dollars in 2022 to 1.33 billion dollars last year. The market is expected to grow to 2.3 billion dollars in 2030 with an annual average growth rate of 6.3 percent.
"By developing a battery life diagnostic device with higher accuracy than existing similar services, owners or consumers can determine the condition of the battery and prevent battery fires in advance," said Park Seung-beom, CEO of Ace Works.
